Snow or not, Winter Carnival is ready to go

Sierra Madre Winter Carnival organizer Alyson Sneddon is hoping for people to do snow dances this week. The lack of snow has made the Sierra Madre Winter Carnival a bit of a challenge for the past several years. “Get your snow dance shoes on and pray for snow,” Sneddon said.

The week between Christmas

Amid the week after Christmas, piles of wrapping in bags,
shiny paper and boxes in trash with the tags.
Sad little scissors sit broken and bent,
from clamshell packaging--they don’t make a dent.
The lights are still sparkly, still light up the town,
but pretty soon work begins in taking them down.

Platts returns for New Year's Eve

Saratoga native, Sam Platts, and his band, The Kootenai Three, will headline a family-oriented New Year’s Eve dance at the Platte Valley Community Center.
The event, sponsored by the Valley Service Organization, had a similar dance party before Christmas last year.
