'Scrappy' Lady Panthers go 2-1 in Shoshoni

Saratoga girls take down Shoshoni and Meeteetse, fall to Riverside

The Saratoga Lady Panthers had another well-played preseason tournament as they competed in the Wrangler Invite in Shoshoni on December 19 and 20.

Saratoga, under the leadership of new coach Logan Wright, went 2-1 as they dropped the 2A Shoshoni Lady Wranglers and the Meeteetse Lady Longhorns but fell to the RIverside Lady Rebels.

On Thursday, Saratoga defeated the Lady Wranglers by nearly 20 points with a final score of 38-20. Then, on Friday, they fell to a strong Riverside team.

“We got down 11 points at one point and battled back and had a shot to win it,” said Wright.

The final score against the Lady Rebels was 35-33 in favor of Riverside.

The last game in the preseason tournament for Saratoga was against the Lady Longhorns. The Lady Panthers ran over Meeteetse with a final score of 55-7.

“They [Meeteetse] only have five girls out for basketball so with all of our depth it got pretty lopsided,” said Wright.

The victory over a 2A team could serve as a confidence boost for the Lady Panthers as they head into break. In 2025, conference play awaits Saratoga but Wright is confident his team can handle it.

‘We’ve really seen some growth over the past 3 weeks as the girls continue to learn the game and become a scrappy bunch,” said Wright. “Excited to see where this all leads.”

The Saratoga Lady Panthers are now 5-2 for the season. When they return from break, they will face the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners junior varsity on Tuesday, January 7th. They will then face their Valley and conference rivals, the Encampment Lady Tigers, at noon on January 11 in Encampment.
