Serving the Platte Valley since 1888

Thanks For Your Service

In the search for the balance of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, this past week saw tributes and thanks for those in our community who have served not only in the military but in the polling centers during our election process.

We heartily thank our veterans for serving not only their communities but their country in their military commitments as the staff of The Saratoga Sun now includes members of the United States Army, Air Force and soon the Navy with our new reporter starting later this month.

The military investments made by so many members of our small population solidifies the belief in the idea of a constitutional republic set forth by the founding fathers of this great nation.

This form of government allows citizens to exercise their right to elect their representatives civilly and peacefully through the democratic process of voting.

Our lawful change of power occurs no matter what conflicts may exist among individuals. This being said, our polls, especially in Carbon County, are fair, balanced and without reproach.

The Saratoga Sun staff is pleased to find that so many people wanted their voices heard in this election and the country reported a 105% turnout. The people in Carbon County stepped up to have their voices heard with over 1,066 people who registered on election day and 2,100 who voted by absentee ballot.

There are many people behind the scenes who offer their time to be a part of a civic process. Long days and vigilance for a proper transfer of power are worthy of thanks to those who give their time every election day.

Every member of our community who is 18 or older can participate in either the military or the election process.

Some have a calling to serve in the military — some do not — but would still like to participate in the idea of the United States of America.

If the military is not for you, there are so many other ways to support your community.

Volunteer at polling stations, run for an office, write letters to the editor and most importantly — get out and vote. We all have a voice, an idea, a will — let your individuality shine for the betterment of our community.
