In the books

The athletes and the coaches of Carbon County School District No. 2 should be proud of themselves. We at the Saratoga Sun certainly are proud of them. All three high school volleyball teams went to Regionals. Saratoga and Encampment volleyball players participated in Lander at the Southwest Regionals and Hanna-Elk-Mountain-Medicine Bow competed in the Southeast Regionals in Guernsey.

Saratoga qualified for the playoffs in 9-man football with an impeccable season and Encampment was nearly undefeated in their season. The Cross Country team had a runner make All-State her freshman year.

Now we have the Encampment Tigers going to State Volleyball for the first time in seven years and the Saratoga and Encampment football teams heading into semi finals.

That is a pretty good record for the school district.

If you have read the sports articles in the Saratoga Sun the last two months, you will see that the staff has several different writing styles when it comes to writing sports.

Some of them mention detailed statistics, while others have detailed descriptions of the games.

We depend on our coaches to get information to us. Without statistics we have to depend on our interpretation of the game.

We know the coaches are busy with teaching, having a life and we are good with that.

None of us at the Saratoga Sun are sports experts and with a small newspaper, we can’t have a reporter who does only sports, so we do the best we can to share what we see. We all took on the roles and we all had fun covering the games and races.

Every Monday morning, D’Ron, Josh and I would share exciting things we witnessed about the athletes and their accomplishments. We scoured through our photos looking for the best action shot of the athletes.

We have a three-week break before basketball and wrestling starts, but we are looking forward to those seasons as well.

We hope you continue to read our coverage of the amazing athletes we have in our school district. We will use our down time between the seasons to feature athletes like Josie Little and her 1000th dig.

We have enlisted community members to help us at away games, so we have photos for the paper and we appreciate their efforts.

In the meantime, if you know of an athlete that you think is worthy of a feature, give us a call at 307-326-3611 and we will do our best to write about that athlete.
