Mammos and Mimosas event to offer “fun, fresh approach” to understanding breast cancer prevention and education
Memorial Hospital of Carbon County (MHCC) will be hosting a brand new event encouraging women to be screened for breast cancer.
“Mammos and Mimosas” will be held October 19 from 10 a.m. to noon. at the Depot Station in Rawlins, Wyoming.
“This event hopes to be a fun, fresh approach to give women an understanding of prevention, services and education concerning breast cancer,” said Stephanie Hinkle, Director of Strategic Operations and Foundation Executive Director.
MHCC received a $5,000 grant from the Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative to hold this event in October — the month the hospital highlights breast cancer awareness.
“This event will be free of charge and is open to everyone,” said Hinkle. “The event focuses on education and we [MHCC] hope to lighten up a sometimes heavy topic.”
Beverages, food, door prizes and raffle items will be presented throughout the event.
Two speakers, Cathy Holman [Prairie Wife in Heels] and Carbon County resident Deb Engstrom, will be presenting their inspiring, uplifting experiences overcoming the disease in this supportive environment.
MHCC will be offering mammogram appointments on a first come, first served basis after the event from 1 to 5 p.m.
The Wyoming Cancer Coalition and MHCC staff will be on site with information on 3D imaging and opportunities for those uninsured or underfunded individuals to receive this “important and proactive” screening.
The event will also auction off “Baskets for Breast Cancer” (due to MHCC by the second week of October) with all proceeds going directly to the Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative.
