Design for Encampment's Sewer Lagoon Project nearing completion

Workshop to be held October 10

After six months of planning, the Sewer Lagoon Project - Phase 2 for the town of Encampment is getting closer to a design.

Jon Nelson, with North Fork Engineering, proposed a design review workshop for the Phase - 2 project to the Encampment Town Council September 12, as the deadline to submit the design to the Department of Environmental Quality is November 22

The town council voted to hold an hour-and-one-half hour workshop on Oct. 10 at 5:30 p.m.

The design, while it has taken time, is right on schedule as Nelson advised the council it would be ready for submission in November.

The town applied for a State Lands and Investment Board (SLIB) loan which was completed in July. The SLIB board meets October 3.

Compliance for lagoon treatment is getting more expensive, town clerk Doreen Harvey said, and it requires the town to upgrade the sewer treatment by adding aerators to the water and sewer project that was completed in Phase 1. Cities in Wyoming are required to stay in compliance.

While the residents incur some of the cost of improvements through their water and sewer bill, the SLIB loan can cover up to 75 percent of the cost with a forgiveness loan if approved in October.

The next meeting of the Encampment Town Council will be at 7 p.m on October 10 at Encampment Town Hall.
