Voters will have opportunity to question Carbon County School District No. 2 Candidates
With the ballot for the 2024 General Election set, voters in Carbon County School District No. 2 (CCSD2) will have the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates running for office this year.
According to a press release from the Carbon County 2 Education Association, a School Board Candidates Forum will be hosted at the Platte Valley Community Center. Of the four offices up for election this year, only one of them is a contested race. Incumbents Nick Wamsley, Joe Gaspari and Georgia Miller will be running unopposed. Elk Mountain’s Paul Clark, however, is being challenged by Hanna resident Aubrey Maughan.
Clark represents Area 1 on the CCSD2 Board of Trustees which consists of all of the district north of Interstate 80. Area 2 is represented by Miller, which consists of all the district south of Interstate 80. Area 3, represented by Gaspari, consists of inside Saratoga town limits and Area 4, represented by Wamsley, is an at-large position.
All four incumbent candidates were elected to their positions during the 2020 General Election without any challengers. This has been the first term for Wamsley while Clark was elected to Area 1 in 2016, the same year Gaspari was elected to Area 3. Miller, meanwhile, first got onto the Board of Trustees having run for a two-year unexpired term for Area 2.
According to Nanette Marchetti, the president of the Carbon County 2 Education Association, all five candidates have indicated they will attend the forum which will be live-streamed by the Saratoga Sun.
The forum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on October 3 at the Platte Valley Community Center.
