Panthers Starting to Coalesce as a Team, First Game on the Road
The Saratoga Panthers stormed to a solid victory on the road against Wind River High School.
Although not a conference game, the Panthers once again had a near shutout with a final score of 50-8.
“It was a physical game against Wind River and an impressive win for the Panthers,” said head coach Jared Mason.
Last week’s game against Cheyenne South JV was prominent in the ground game, but this week’s game showed the team can put up yards passing.
The Panthers continued their rushing yards with 239, however QB Jace Westring balanced the plays with 116 yards passing against Wind River’s 24.
“The team chemistry is really starting to gel and they are building confidence in themselves and one another,” said Mason.
Hazen Williams dominated 3 of the 4 quarters with 98 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Brody Johnson had 3 touchdowns of his own, and Hunter Johnston finished the team’s total points with 1 touchdown in the 4th quarter.
The defense held the opposition to 142 total yards, recovered 3 fumbles and had 2 tackles for a loss.
Mason said “Of course, we made some mistakes (that we’ll keep working to improve) but I like the “next play” mindset of the team and the positive attitudes they’ve displayed up to this point.”
The next home game is a conference game against Niobrara County at 6 p.m. on September 20.
