Encampment six-man football deals loss to the Rebels in home opener game
Encampment Tiger six-man football roared into the 2024 season as they took down the Riverside Rebels on September 6 sending them home with a more than 30-point loss.
“I really liked the fire and intensity that the boys came out with in this game. The team had great energy and, overall, I thought we played well,” said Head Coach Kegan Willford.
Throughout all four quarters of the match, Encampment kept the Rebels’ scoring low. In the 1st quarter, the Tiger Tyrel Brown completed a 7 yard pass from Kannon Gilbert for a 6 point conversion. Riverside, meanwhile, was kept scoreless.
While the Rebels were able to secure a 6 point conversion following a 57 yard pass in the 2nd quarter, it was too little against Encampment’s scoring. Gilbert scored the first touchdown for the Tigers with a 2 yard rush followed by a point-after-touchdown from Gunner Knotwell.
Baylin Sifford received a 19 yard pass from Knotwell for another 6 point conversion. Yet another point-after-touchdown put Encampment up by 16 points. As the game entered halftime, the Tigers led 22-6 over Riverside.
Returning to the gridiron, the 3rd quarter was the same as the 1st in that the Rebels were unable to make their way to the goalpost. Encampment, meanwhile, kept up their scoring to further expand the point deficit established in the first half.
Brown received a 37 yard pass from Gilbert for a 6 point conversion, followed by a point-after-touchdown from Knotwell. Proving he’s more than a kicker, Knotwell then received a 14 yard pass from Gilbert for another 6 point conversion. Another successful point-after-touchdown put the Tigers up 38-6 over Riverside as the match entered its final quarter.
The only scoring from Encampment in the 4th quarter came from a 1 yard rush by Gilbert and a point-after-touchdown from Knotwell. Riverside, meanwhile, put 7 points up on the board with an 8 yard pass and a 3 yard pass for a 6 point and 1 point conversion, respectively.
The final score was 46-13.
Gilbert led the Tigers in rushing, with 20 rushes over 125 yards. Gilbert was also the passing leader, with 11 complete passes over 165 yards.
“It’s still early in the season and we still have parts of the game we need to improve on, but I thought that this was a great start to our season,” said Willford.
The Encampment Tigers are now 1-0 for their season. Their first conference game will be against Casper Christian at 5 p.m. on September 27 in Casper.
