Chief Mike Morris reminds motorists to be mindful of pedestrians near school zones, new bus loading zone at elementary school
The new school year is here and pedestrian safety is a top priority for the Saratoga Police Department.
In a press release, Saratoga Police Chief Mike Morris said motorists should be alert when driving during the school rush hour.
“The Saratoga Police Department would like to remind everyone that with the start of the school year, drivers should be extremely cautious when driving into our towns and streets,” Morris said. “When operating a vehicle please pay attention to the speed limits in school zones, and watch for children crossing the streets, not just at intersections, but along all streets.”
Morris said signs on the street are there for everyone's safety and protection.
“Obey the warning and stop signs displayed by school buses along the bus routes,” Morris said. “One significant change this year applies to the Bus Loading/Unloading area at the Saratoga Elementary School. “
Morris said he wanted to advise everyone about the barricade installed near Elm Avenue where students will be dropped off and picked up. Morris also said the Saratoga Police Department will be out of patrol to catch traffic violators.
“The Saratoga Public Work Department in conjunction with the Carbon School District No. 2 Transportation Department has installed barricades on Elm Avenue on the south side of the school,” Morris said. “These barricades readily define the Loading/Unloading area and create a separate roadway or lane to be used only for the buses. Not only does this change provide a safer, more secure area for the children getting on and off the buses but, traffic on Elm Ave will no longer be required to stop while the buses are being loaded or unloaded. This means that the change will also be less disruptive to the flow of traffic. Saratoga police officers will have extra patrols along the bus routes, crosswalks, and school zones.”
