Politically Speaking

Next Tuesday, Wyoming voters will take to the polls for the primary election which means that, starting next Wednesday everyone’s mailbox will be far less clogged with election mailers.

Carbon County, it seems, has been mostly spared the divisive, politically charged mailers which have plagued other parts of the state. Perhaps that’s because, in House District 47, incumbent Bob Davis is running unopposed in the primary while House District 15 is seeing three new candidates without the incumbent—Don Burkhart, Jr.—running.

Our county was not completely spared, however, as mailers were sent out in support of the three incumbent county commissioner candidates. Though rather positive, all things considered, they weren’t lacking in buzzwords. It still remains to be seen why the group which paid for the mailers—The Western Way Action PAC—decided to weigh in on this local race.

Rather than getting their information from a flier, we hope voters will read the 2024 Primary Election Section in this week’s Saratoga Sun. In preparation for this section, we worked on questions to ask candidates for United States Senate, United States Representative, House District 15, House District 15, Board of Carbon County Commissioners, Saratoga Town Council, Encampment Town Council and Riverside Town Council. Rather than to allow candidates to have space for a stump speech, our goal was to ask questions we thought our readers would want us to ask.

These questions range from budget issues to short term rentals to housing issues. We’ve tried to do our best to ensure there aren’t many buzzwords, but rather answers which focus on policy and the things we believe you care about. When needed, we edited out partisan rhetoric to ensure that the answers focus on policy rather than personality.

We hope you find this section informative and will help you make a decision before going to the polls on August 20.

Finally, make sure to check out the Saratoga Sun website and the August 22 edition of the Saratoga Sun for primary election results.
