Philip Eugene "Boone" Weber

Philip Eugene “Boone” Weber, 90, of Baggs, Wyoming, passed away on August 4th, 2024, after a long battle with kidney disease.

Boone was born in Delta, Utah, on March 23rd,1934, to Sid and Nina Weber. Boone graduated from Little Snake River Valley High School in 1952, and he joined the Marine Corp shortly thereafter. Boone was stationed in North Carolina, and then California. Later he attended the University of Wyoming on the G.I.

Bill, but mostly “studied” rodeo while he was there, spending every weekend away with the rodeo team.

In 1957, Boone met Verna M. Allen of Saratoga on a blind date set up by mutual friends at a dance in Elk Mountain. Boone and Verna went on to get married and have three children, Shel, Clint, and Rena.

Boone and Verna operated a grocery store in Baggs when Shel and Clint were young children, then owned and operated the Little Snake River Meat Processing Plant until 2002. Of course, they also owned and operated a cattle ranch north of Baggs from 1972 until 2008.

In the year 2000, Boone was inducted into the Senior Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Reno, Nevada. Traditionally, Boone was a bareback bronc rider, but was inducted into the SPRHOF for steer wrestling /bull dogging. Senior Pro Rodeo is for cowboys 40 years old and over, so this is an impressive feat! Boone was the toughest man any of us have ever met.

In 2002, Boone retired and spent winters team roping in Arizona, while still running the ranch and putting up the hay in the summers in Baggs.

Boone was predeceased by his parents, younger sister Sandy, and grandson Riley. He is survived by his wife Verna, adult children Shel (Yvonne), Clint, and Rena, his adult grandchildren Travis (Jessica), Celia, and Zach (Bri), his great-grandchildren Bailey, Zoe, Tuff, Stran, Tess, Zoe, Paizley, and Rosin, his brother Ray (Kathleen), all of Baggs, and his brother Wayne (Peggy) of Seattle, Washington.

Services were held at the Valley Community Center in Baggs on Sunday, August 11th, at 10:00 am., followed by graveside services at the Baggs Cemetery, and back to the VCC for lunch. The family requests donations be made to Flight for Life, Baggs Search & Rescue, or Encampment Search & Rescue if you are so inclined to do so, in care of Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Ave., Craig, Colorado 81625.
