Trout Come Up Short to End Season

Platte Valley Trout All-Stars get dealt a loss by Platte County in District 2 Tournament

The Platte Valley Trout All-Stars season ended on July 18 as they lost their third straight game to the Platte County All-Stars, 3-2.

Head Coach Ben Spaulding said, despite the three losses, he was proud of his team's effort and sees a bright future for next year., Spaulding added his team needs to work on their hitting. He said he will be looking for ways to help them during the off-season.

“The kids played very well defensively. Great pitching from Jackson Kopasz and Beckett Spaulding and overall pitching for the three games was outstanding,” Spaulding said. “We are struggled to hit the ball over the three games. Our batting average as a team was.197. This is one aspect we are going to have to look towards next season, making sure kids are getting the proper training and adequate hitting time. Our field was incredible. We were averaging.774 in fielding percentage. The kids show their strength defensively.”

Spaulding said his team put it all out on the field, giving it everything they had.

“The game came down to the wire against Platte County,” Spaulding said. “We did leave a few runners on base which hurt us in the run category, but we took opportunities where we could to get kids home.”

Spaulding said going into the 6th inning, his team did what they could but just could not hold off Platte County.

“We were tied up going into the bottom of the 6th and Platte County had the bases loaded with two outs,” Spaulding said. “Kopasz placed a very good pitch. The batter from Platte County made contact and put the ball in the gap which scored another run and won them the game. The kids put their hearts and souls into the game. I was extremely proud of the kids the way they stepped up where they needed to. We just came up short.”
