Symbols Of American Culture

Platte Valley Knights Auto Club holds car show on July 4 at Platte Valley Community Center

Here in the United States car culture is a unique staple in the greater American culture.

We make movies about cars like the Fast and Furious movies and one of my personal favorites, American Graffiti. We write books and have entire portions of the internet just dedicated to the culture around cars. Cars represent many different things. The classics are staples of history and with them hold memories. People who love cars also say their cars have their own personality that you can feel as you drive them or work on them. In the case of the Platte Valley Knights Auto Club Car Show, every vehicle there was American made and that demonstrates the pride in American engineering that those cars give us.

The car show gives the opportunity to come together and share that culture and that is just what happened. People came bringing the vehicles they put their hearts into and shared them with each other. People who don’t have classics of their own came to see these cars and admire the work that has gone into preserving them and making them special. People came together and told stories about their cars and bond over a common interest.

A big part of car culture of course is working on cars. Working on a vehicle you care about is a labor of love. It takes time, skill, and effort to get a job done but it feels good to bring something to bring a car to life. Working on a car isn’t something that has to be done alone either. Involving friends and family makes for memorable bonding experiences built around a mutual love for a vehicle.

Cars bring us pride. They are pieces of history and most importantly cars bring us together.
