Some Change in The Rates

Overview of the Encampment town council meeting

At June 14’s Encampment Town Council meeting, the council discussed changes in water and sewer rates, a land dispute, a donation to the 4th of July Firework Display, and a request for use of town land with the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities.

Encampment sewer rates have increased from $23 a month to $26. According to Town Clerk Doreen Harvey, this was done due to the additional expenses and man labor caused by the upgraded lagoon system which is more resource intensive and requires more maintenance. The water rate has remained at $46 a month, but the base consumption limit has been lowered from 10,000 galleons to 7,000 galleons. Any water use over 7,000 galleons will be charged at $3.50 per 1,000 galleons over the allotted base consumption. This change was made due to the increase in overhead costs caused by the rising costs in chemicals and other resources required to purify the water.

The Town of Encampment chose to change the consumption rate over changing the flat rate because it was considered by Harvey to be a more equitable decision.

Jim Ramirez requested to encroach into the right of way of Wyoming Highway 70 in order to build a porch add on to the south side of the Block 11 Apartments. The right away being a part of the highway belongs to the State of Wyoming, the council denied the expansion. The governing body asked Ramirez to remove the work he has already done on the project without a permit.

The Mother Mountain Anglers have made a donation of $4000 to the Encampment 4th of July Firework Display. This donation will go a long way in making the display the best it can be for the community.

The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities has requested to use a portion of town property to store equipment such as snowcats and ATVs in order to access the Hog Park Reservoir, which is owned by the City of Cheyenne. Encampment and Cheyenne are still under negotiation at this time.

The next meeting of the Encampment Town Council will be at 7 p.m. on July 14 at Encampment Town Hall.
