Robert B. Haigh

Robert B. Haigh died peacefully in his own home on May 1, 2024 in Saratoga Wyoming in the presence of his two sons and in the kind and constant care of Marina, John and Danielle. Bob Haigh was 77 years old and was recently predeceased by Patti his wife of 50 years; Bob Haigh was born in Aurora, Illinois in 1946 and attended Hinsdale Central high school. After graduating from the University of Denver; he served his country in the U.S. Army and spent his service as a quartermaster in Germany. Early experience as a police officer led to his appointment as Police Commissioner for the town of Indian Head Park, Illinois.

Bob was an international hunter. He was most impassioned by big game in Africa and doves in Argentina. Bob was a lifetime Safari Club International member and served as the Illinois Safari Club chapter president. Bob also used his hunting trophies to host sensory safaris for the visually impaired. His generosity funded many causes throughout the world.

In 2012, Robert B. Haigh retired as the proud Chairman and CEO of Chicago Tube and Iron. His 40-year career in the steel industry was marked by escalating success and true leadership. He always expressed that CTI’s power came from empowering its employees.

Bob loved the Saratoga Valley where he spent many visits in his youth and eventually relocated to be near his friends.

A celebration of life will be scheduled for later this summer.

Bob Haigh will be remembered for his sage advice, wicked sense of humor, and his willingness to help those he loved. He was a mentor to everyone and a father-figure for so many youth. Bob Haigh is survived by his siblings Bill, Barbara and Jim, his two sons George and Tom and his grandchildren Hannah, Lauren and Harrison
