Learning about Mother Cabrini

Platte Valley Christian Center shows movie on religious advocate for the underprivileged of New York City

The Platte Valley Christian Center Assembly of Gods screened the movie ‘Cabrini’, also known as Mother Cabrini, who founded the Missionary Sisters of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. She went before the Pope of Italy in 1880 and told him she had a mission to help others. He consented to send her and seven Nuns to New York City.

After arriving in America with broken english and poor health, she is greeted by disease, crime and impoverished children. She soon set off on a daring mission and became a fierce fighter for the underprivileged. She was able to secure housing and health care for society’s most vulnerable all over the world and dedicated her life to standing up for them. She even stood up to the Mayor of New York City.

A 22 foot statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, carved by an Italian artist, was mounted on a eleven foot base and erected above the Heart of Stones at the Mother Cabrini shrine in Golden Colorado.

Steve Deorio, owner of The Grumpy Italian, catered the movie event serving his food and party trays made by his wife Eden Deorio. He and his family have embraced their Italian heritage by visiting the Shrine in Colorado. His father and other family members, who were stonemasons, have crafted some of the stone benches that are there for visitors to rest, pray or meditate on along the path going up to the shrine.

His cousins Dan and Derik Marshall and Chuck Deorio still run D. Deorio and Sons Memorials in Colorado where his family still takes pride in their workmanship. He also makes donations and attends the Annual Mother Cabrini Shrine Gala held in Denver, Colorado with his lifelong friend Loretta Dardano, who is a major donor and sponsors tables at the gala.

If anyone would like to make a donation to help with upkeep of the shrine please do so at Mother Cabrini Shrine 20189 Cabrini Blvd, Golden Colorado 80401.
