Grace Iona Craig of Saratoga, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024, at Platte Valley Nursing Home at age 91. She was born January 22, 1933, to parents Rachel (Buff) Craig and Thomas Craig in Mountain View, Missouri. She was one of nine children, with four sisters and four boys.
Her family moved to Saratoga, Wyoming in 1942 to work in the mountains and Grace graduated from Saratoga High School in 1951. She married Bobby Gene Johnston on June 23, 1951, and moved to the Lazy CJ Ranch. On February 26, 1953, their son, Robert Eugene Johnston was born.
Grace was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother in-law. She enjoyed watching her son compete in junior high and high school athletics and was a proud grandmother in the stands watching her three grandsons too! She never missed a game and until health issues arose, she would have been there for her six great-grandsons as well! We know she has the best seat in the house now as she watches her great-grandsons play! Grace (Gracey Mae) was also an athlete herself; playing women’s softball in Saratoga, always managing to get a hit when she was up to bat!
Grace was a wonderful ranch cook! Always being able to whip up a seven-course meal in less than thirty minutes! Her delicious homemade rolls were a favorite at family dinners and never seemed to last very long.
She will be sadly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Laurie Johnston, grandsons: James Johnston & wife Adrienne, great-grandsons Bryce and Collyer, Joseph Johnston & wife Amy, great-grandsons Hunter and Trayton, and Jacob Johnston & wife Kate, great-grandsons Rowan and Brant, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings.
Cremation has taken place and a family graveside service will take place at a later date.
