Saratoga Museum’s Frozen Fore golf tournament goes to its 4th hole-In-one year.
On Saturday, the Saratoga Museum hosted Carbon County’s Winter Golf Classic, the Frozen Fore, at Saratoga lake.
Each team has a total of four players and gets four tennis balls. At the end of the game cash prizes are given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. All participants from the Frozen Fore tournament met at the American Legion Hall Post 54 where the winners were announced.
Dana Davis, director of the Saratoga Museum and lead organizer for the Frozen Fore golf tournament, said that this event all started during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. She said since then it has become a great success with people signing up each year.
“We started this event during COVID because we could not do any fundraising event indoors due to social distancing,” Davis said. “Marget Weber who volunteers for the museum came up with the idea from the town of Walden where they play ice golf and they started it because of COVID so that was the first year we started here.”
Davis said since the start of Frozen Fore, past participants continued to sign up each year and has become a popular event. She said it has helped out a lot in their fundraising.
“It turns out that it has been a great event every year and it has been one of our biggest fundraisers,” Davis said. “Typically we have anywhere between 80 to 100 people competing in this event. All the proceeds from this fundraiser goes to the museum.”
This year’s winner of the Frozen Fore golf tournament was led by Dave Lawrance. Lawrence said his team has played together since it started and they made it their goal to win the tournament this year.
“It feels awesome to win this tournament because the four of us have played together since this started four years ago,” Lawrence said. “It is pretty unusual that four players play together this whole time. We have fun every year the chamber puts on a great event and it’s always a blast. We love it.”
Lawrence said that he and his team are looking forward to defending their title next February.
He hopes his team can win back to back.
“I am absolutely looking forward to next year,” Lawrence said. “We want to defend our title and I have to say this event tops the last previous ones that we have played in.”
Next year the Frozen Fore will take place at Saratoga Lake again. To sign up for next year’s event go to the Saratoga museum website to get more information.
