Encampment deals 84-0 loss to the Midwest Oilers, prepare to host Meeteetse Longhorns on Friday
The regular six-man football season came to an end this past weekend for the Encampment Tigers, who ended their final game in spectacular fashion. Hosted by the Midwest Oilers on October 21, the Tigers drilled down to completely shut out Midwest.
“It was good to end the regular season where our younger players were able to get a lot of playing time,” said Kegan Willford, head coach for the Encampment Tigers.
Much like other games this season, the Tigers wasted no time in dominating the gridiron of the hosting team. In fact, in the 1st Quarter, Encampment put up a total of 53 points on the board beginning with two touchdowns, one from Quade Jordan following a 22 yard rush and another from Kaban Pickett following a 26 yard rush, and a six-point conversion from Ryon Miller following a 29 yard pass from Gunner Henrie.
All told, the 1st quarter of the game would see Jordan make two touchdowns, Pickett make three touchdowns and Kannon Gilbert make a touchdown. As the game moved into the 2nd quarter, Willford subbed his senior and varsity players with younger footballers. Before the half, the Tigers would score another 13 points with two touchdowns from Gilbert and a one-point conversion from Raden Miller following a pass from Dashaal Baysinger.
After the half, the Tigers would continue to score, thought not as much as in the first half or the 1st Quarter. In the 3rd quarter, Korbyn Barkhurst completed a six-point conversion following a pass from Baysinger. The final quarter saw two touchdowns from Gilbert.
Midwest would not score a single point throughout the entire game.
In the match-up against the Oilers, Gilbert was rushing leader having rushed for 103 yards and was followed by Pickett who rushed for 52 yards. Baysinger was the passing leader, passing for 44 yards and followed by Pickett with 33 yards and Henrie with 29 yards. Gilbert was also the touchdown leader with four touchdowns followed by Pickett with three and Jordan with two.
Following their win over the Midwest Oilers, the Encampment Tigers are 7-1 for the season and 4-1 in conference play as the regular season ends. They sit at No. 2 in the 1A South Conference, just behind the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers.
The Tigers will host the Meeteetse Longhorns for quarterfinal round of the 1A Six-Man Playoffs.
“We are excited to be hosting a home playoff game on Friday against Meeteetse,” said Willford. “Meeteetse has a good program and really likes to spread teams out when they are on offense.”
The Longhorns are No. 3 in the 1A North Conference with a season record of 4-4 and a conference record of 3-2.
Encampment will host the Longhorns at 2 p.m. on October 27. The winner of this match will go on to face the winner of the game between the Burlington Huskies and the Farson-Eden Pronghorns.
