Sonna Lou Swanson

On September 15, 2023 the world lost a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. Sonna Lou Swanson will be sadly missed by the people she touched in her life.

Sonna was born on January 4, 1939 to Arthur and Freida Cass in Brighton, Missouri. The family moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado where Sonna and her brothers, Gail Lynn, grew up and attended school. She married Jon Hart, moved to Arizona and raised their daughters Cheryl, Theresa and Lori in New Mexico and later Wyoming after the couple divorced.

After a short friendship, Sonna married John Swanson on December 14, 1983 in Saratoga. They would have been married 40 years in December. Once Sonna married John, she acquired even more loving daughters: Lisa, Linda, Sandra, Diana and Alinea.

Sonna retired as postmaster, where she was always smiling, helpful and effecient. She worked at Saratoga, Rock River and Encampment. Every Christmas, she made sure Santa’s letters were deliverd with the utmost care. After her retirement, she and John traveled the country in an RV before settling in Morristown, Arizona.

As a mother, Sonna was fully vested in her daughters’ activities at school, 4H and sports. She was always there for them.

Sonna was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, mother-in-law Sophia and brother-in-law Ben. She is survived by her husband and soulmate, John, daughter, grandchildren, sister-in-law Iva, brother-in-law Kenneth and wife Alice, and family members.

Sonna loved the outdoors in all its glory whether fishing, metal detecting, arrowhead and rock hunting or camping with husband and family. An avid photographer, she left many images of special times and memories.

A service will be held at a later date.
