Glen Allen Feakes, age 91, of Denver, Colorado departed this life on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, supported by his loving family. He was born in Fennimore, Wisconsin to Wayne and Florence (Fry) Feakes on August 15, 1931. He grew up in the Fennimore area and was a 1949 graduate of Fennimore High School.
After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force and was assigned to various locations in the United States and abroad during and after the Korean War. In 1957 and selected as a “Brightest and the Best” and stationed at the U.S. Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) in Encampment, Wyoming. There he met his future wife, Joncee Arliene Newsom of Saratoga.
On February 22, 1958 they were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The two of them were stationed in multiple overseas locations including Alice Springs, Australia and twice in Toledo, Spain which resulted in numerous memories and long-term friendships. He retired from the military as a Master Sergeant in 1971 and used his military benefits to pursue higher education at the University of Colorado in Denver, receiving bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and International Business in 1974. This training led him to a second career in civilian contracting work with the Department of Defense, Defense Contracts Administration Services Office (DCASO). Later in his career, he had the opportunity to work the manufactures of the M1 Abrams tank at the Army Tank Plant in Lima, Ohio, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland during the development of the Hubbel Telescope, and with the Army Corps of Engineers at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center.
Following his second retirement in 1989, Glen pursued his dream to build a cabin in Hartsel, Colorado and received the Certificate of Occupancy in 1990. Glen was a member and an officer of the Ranch of the Rockies Homeowner’s Association, a member of the American Legion CO Post 0055 in Buena Vista, and a member of the Hartsel Volunteer Fire Department. Throughout his retirement, Glen was an active member of the AFTAC Alumni Association of Colorado. He loved his family, the mountains, fishing and hunting, patio gardening, opening presents on Christmas morning and exploring locations around the world.
He is survived by Joncee, his wife of 65 years; their son, Randell, and his wife, Diann, of Denver, Colorado; their granddaughters, Caitlin of Saratoga, Wyoming and Sydney of Denver, Colorado and their daughter, Debra, and her husband, Alejandro, of San Marcos, Texas.
Services were held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery (3698 S. Sheridan Blvd. Denver, Colorado 80236) at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2023. Guests met at Staging Area C. Following the memorial service, there was an informal gathering and reception at the Montclair Civic Building (6820 E 12th Ave. Denver, Colorado 80220) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Rather than flowers or donations, the family would lie to you to use those funds for a special celebration with your family in memory of Glen.
