Council appoints new town clerk

Saratoga Town Hall may have a new town clerk, but she is likely a familiar face to many within the Valley.

Jennifer “Jenn” Anderson was appointed as the new clerk and sworn in on September 5 during a meeting of the Saratoga Town Council. Anderson currently works as a dispatcher for the Saratoga Police Department. Prior to that, she worked for Carbon County School District No.2 for approximately 15 years. She is the mother of three children, two of whom are graduates of Encampment K-12 School with one still enrolled there.

Mayor Chuck Davis informed both the council and the public that Anderson was one of four candidates for the position. While the other three candidates either withdrew their applications or were unable to be contacted, Davis said a hiring committee highly recommended Anderson for the position of town clerk. Her appointment was approved unanimously, though she will also continue to help with the Saratoga Police Department for the next few weeks.

Prior to her appointment, Councilmember Kathy Beck asked Davis about training for Anderson. Davis explained there would be upcoming training for the Town of Saratoga’s primary program—Caselle—she would attend. Beck also mentioned the Wyoming Association of Municipalities Clerks and Treasurers (WAMCAT) as a resource.

Anderson is the third town clerk for Saratoga in recent years. Long-time clerk Suzie Cox retired at the end of 2020 and was replaced by Marie Christen in 2021. Christen submitted her resignation earlier this year which was effective July 14. Since then she has worked part-time as the interim clerk.

Per Saratoga Municipal Code, the town clerk is one of five appointments made by the mayor with the consent of the Saratoga Town Council at the beginning of the mayor’s term. The other four are police chief, treasurer, attorney and municipal judge. The term for all five appointments is for four years.
