Memorial Hospital of Carbon County Golf Scramble for fun and funds

Annual fundraiser success

The MHCC 5th Annual Foundation Fun Scramble offered up a Calcutta which included a special auction item with all proceeds going to the Tyeler Harris Memorial Scholarship Fund. Proceeds from the Scramble will go towards the “Health 360 Equipment Package” which includes a portable Sonosite Ultrasound, Bladder Scanner, and Microbiology Automated ID System. The equipment gives an extra edge in providing 360 degree care across multiple departments.

According to Stephanie Hinkle, Marketing, Communications & Foundation Director, every year they pick a project in advance for the funds to go towards. The goal was to raise $65,000.00. This year they actually raised $66,000.00. Hinkle said this is the fifth year they’ve done this Fundraiser and it was the best year they’ve had so far.

A special item was donated by Carbon County Higher Education. Braden Fritz, a high school senior in Rawlins made the piece that was auctioned off. The proceeds from this auction went to the Tyeler Harris Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $800.00. This fund was created after the loss of Harris last year.

Dr. Duane Abels was the lucky winner of the auction.

Hinkle estimated 75 people at the Calcutta. The tournament had 17 teams participate, consisting of four players each. The “scramble” is a team competition, so each team member makes the shot and then the team selects the best shot to continue.

The weather was a little difficult with rain making it a chilly morning. Most of the teams were in by 1 P.M. Lunch was served to all the teams and award presentations were made. They finished up with the ball drop. They add lots of little games during the day, and the ball drop is a great finale to this amazing event. As you’re going through the line in the morning, you can purchase up to 20 golf balls per person. The balls have a number on them and when the balls are dropped. There is a hole is pre-dug and the ball that falls in first, wins. The winner wins half the pot from the ball sales, and the other half goes back to the foundation.
