Serving the Platte Valley since 1888
Our beloved Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Great-Great Grandma “GIGI” Mary Ola (Yates) Pigg went home to Jesus on August 18, 2023 after suffering from a brief illness. She passed at Sierra Hills assisted living facility in Cheyenne, Wyo. surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born on October 15, 1936 to Fred and Lura Yates in Low Wassie, Missouri. In 1944 the family made the move Saratoga, Wyoming from Birch Tree, Missouri where she started the 3 rd grade at Saratoga Elementary school. In 1954 she graduated from Platte Valley High School and moved to Cheyenne Wy for a short time. After moving back to Saratoga, she met and married Carl Pigg on May 1, 1955. She became very involved with raising their 3 boys Jamie, Ronnie and Robbie while helping run the logging business with Carl.
She never met a person she couldn’t talk to, and wouldn’t help in any way she could. After the boys were well into their school years, she decided to become a book keeper for Shively Hardware for about 10 years. She enjoyed working in the back room but also like being out front to talk with the patrons in the store. When she left there, she went to work for Hacks Tackle as office manager/clerk. In this position she had the opportunity to visit with all the people about the river and what was the best thing to catch fish on. She also volunteered at the museum to give her historical recollection of the town’s history.
Mary was an active member of Eastern Star and held many different positions in the local organization.
She is survived by her Husband of 68 years Carl, Brothers Dale (Jeannie) Yates of St Peters Mo, Ben (Terresa) Yates of Carmicheal Ca, Sons Ron (Kathy) Pigg of Cheyenne Wy, Rob Pigg of Pueblo Co, 7 grandchildren, Cristina Blocker, Karen (Ryan) Buford and Sarah (Kyle) Laughlin of Saratoga Wy, Nick (Liz) Blocker of Laramie Wy, Kristen (Brad) Dirck of Rawlins Wy, Stefanie (Trestian) Miller of Casper Wy, and Mary (Aaron) Zemski of Sheridan Wy, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson Jace. She is also survived by a very special niece Barb Pindell of Wheatland Wy, whom she considered her to be just
like a sister and Jim (Tonya) Nisely of Kansas City Mo who was just like a son to her.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Fred and Lura Yates, Sisters Helen Nagy of Kent Wash and Hazel Voerding of Cody Wy, Son James Pigg of Saratoga.
The family is having a family gathering to honor her memory and will be planning a service at a later date.
