Lady Panthers Aim to Repeat as State Champs, Boys Team Guided by Talented Leaders
The Saratoga Panthers High School Track Teams have already hit the ground running in two track meets. The Lady Panthers are the returning state champions of 1A track and Field this season and they are on the prowl to repeat as state champions.
Saratoga Middle High School has 30 students out for track and field. SMHS Head Track Coach Rex Hohnholt expressed his hopes for the year, "Well, get rid of the snow to start with. Get some decent weather for once. We were able to get a meet in for all the kids who didn't leave for Spring Break in Fort Collins last Tuesday March 25. We had 14 kids who made it to the meet. A lot of the team took off early for Spring Break. The Wind River meet was canceled twice because of weather and we were fortunate to be able to compete somewhere."
Hohnholt said the girls team set a goal this season to win the state championship again. The girls are coming off of their state championship from last year. Hohnholt said they have almost all of those same kids coming back this season. We have a lot of good, hard working girls and we have some nice additions this year. "I'm looking forward to working with them and if we can, repeat and squish that target, we have from other teams from around the state."
Hohnholt said, "With the boys, it would be a big accomplishment if we can get on the awards stand. I think we have the kids that can do that." We just have to work real hard this year and hopefully fill all of our relays. I think that would be a good key for us. We have some really talented leaders.
"I'm looking forward to seeing what we can get accomplished for both the boys and girls and we know that it won't be for a lack of effort."
The next meet for the Saratoga Panthers has been rescheduled to Friday April 7 at the Okie Blanchard meet located at Cheyenne East High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The rescheduling is due to weather.
