Encampment girls enter tournament as No. 4 seed
The Encampment Lady Tigers took to the road, headed for Regionals on Monday, three days early. With a winter storm warning at their heels, the Lady's didn't have much choice, The competition ahead of them was going to be tough, but they faced it with the fierce attitude that their fans have all come to expect.
Lady Tigers vs. Dubois Lady Rams
The Tigers first game at regionals was against the Dubois Lady Rams, and they left with a little more confidence, in a triumphic win with an 11 point spread. Kyenna Jackson picked up 14 points, with 11 rebounds to her credit, followed by Allison Bromley's 11 points. Peyton Munroe scored 8 points, with 5 steals to her credit, and 3 assists. Cora Schroeder picked up 8 points, with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The final score was 50-39.
Lady Tigers vs. Burlington Huskies
The Huskies are a team to be reckoned with an 18-3 record. Undaunted by the odds, the Lady Tigers ran into this game ready to win. Kyenna Jackson snatched 18 points for the team, and 19 rebounds. Allison Bromley grabbed 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. The Tigers put it all on the line, losing by a mere 8 points, 46-38.
Lady Tigers vs. Saratoga Lady Panthers
The last time the Tigers faced the Panthers was at the end of January, and that game didn't go well. This meeting between the two teams went into overtime, resulting in a five point win. Kyenna Jackson restricted the Panthers forward motion by scoring 13 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. Cora Schroeder gave it her all scoring 8 points, with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Peyton Munroe brought game with an 8 point gain for her team. Kayla Smith was up to the challenge with 7 points scored and 9 rebounds. The final score against Saratoga was 38-33 in overtime.
Lady Tigers vs. LSRV Lady Rattlers
Fans at Saturday's game between the Tigers and the Rattlers saw the Rattlers take the game away from the Tigers, but not without a fight. Kyenna Jackson landed 7 points, Allison Bromley picked up 6 and Cora Schroder sunk 5, but it just wasn't enough. In the end, the Rattlers took the game away from the Tigers 39-20.
Head Coach Clint Bromley said that he felt they had a decent regional tournament experience. "I thought several girls stepped up at the tournament and had some of their better games of the season," said Bromley. "Kayla and Allison had a good week and that is a plus going into State."
