With regular season at an end, Encampment girls secure pair of non-conference wins before regional tournament
The Encampment Lady Tigers played two non-conference games on the road to finish out the regular season as they were hosted by the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners on Friday and the Rock River Lady Longhorns on Saturday.
Not only did the two games end up as victories for Encampment, but it gave the Lady Tigers some final preparations before the 1A Southwest Regional Tournament.
Lady Tigers vs. Lady Miners
On Friday, Encampment descended into the Mine Shaft to face the Lady Miners and came away with a double-digit lead.
"This was our best defensive effort of the season," said Head Coach Clint Bromley. "I thought we could have executed better on the offensive end and I thought that we turned the ball over more than we should have, but still a good win heading into the regional tournament."
Senior Cora Schroeder led the Lady Tigers against HEM, scoring 13 points with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Sophomore Kyenna Jackson followed with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. The two other seniors also contributed to the win, with Allison Bromley scoring 9 points with 6 assists and 5 steals and Peyton Munroe scoring 6 points with 5 steals.
Despite what appeared to be a lopsided score of 42-7 in Encampment's favor, the Lady Tigers head coach was complimentary of the Lady Miners.
"HEM is a young team that tries exceptionally hard and people are going to have to watch out for them in the future," said C. Bromley. "Both of our post players got into double figures and that is hard to overcome.
Lady Tigers vs. Lady Longhorns
Following their win over HEM, the Lady Tigers again ventured into the 1A Southeast Conference as they were hosted by Rock River. Their experience on Saturday contrasted heavily compared to the game the day before, with the Lady Tigers barely scratching out a victory with just a single point to secure a win.
"This was a fun game that saw several lead changes throughout the four quarters and we were lucky we got the win," said C. Bromley. "Rock River got the last run, outscoring us 7-0 and we didn't shoot the ball very well from the free-throw line, which made the score close."
This time around, it was A. Bromley who helped lead the Lady Tigers to a final win in the regular season as she scored 14 points with 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.
"I thought it was Allison's most complete game of the season and that is something we are looking for going into regionals," said C. Bromley.
Jackson followed with 8 points, 11 rebounds and 8 steals. Schroeder scored 8 points and had 6 rebounds.
The Encampment Lady Tigers end the regular season 11-7 and are 5-3 in conference play. Encampment will enter the 1A West Regional Tournament as the No. 2 seed, securing the spot in a coin-toss with the Saratoga Lady Panthers.
Encampment will face the No. 3 Dubois Lady Rams at 3:40 p.m. on February 23.
