Lady Tigers secure No. 2 spot in conference

Encampment girls go 1-1 on the road to end conference play with a 5-3 record, sitting between Cokeville and Saratoga

The Encampment Lady Tigers are holding onto their No. 2 spot in the 1A Southwest Conference as they head to the 1A West Regional Tournament next weekend after splitting two games on the road.

On Friday, the Lady Tigers were dealt a conference loss—their third this season—by the Cokeville Lady Panthers. The following day, Encampment secured another conference win against the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns. The loss-win weekend puts the Lady Tigers between two sets of Lady Panthers with Cokeville at No. 1 and Saratoga at No. 3

Lady Tigers vs. Lady Panthers

The first game of the weekend saw Encampment fall to the Lady Panthers. When the Lady Tigers had hosted Cokeville last month, they had secured a narrow conference win which the Lady Panthers didn’t let happen again.

“I thought all of our girls played a little sluggish after a five-hour bus ride. We allowed them to get off to an early lead and just couldn’t make up any ground until the fourth quarter,” said Head Coach Clint Bromley. “Cokeville plays outstanding man-to-man defense and they wear you down with their tenacity and relentlessness. You never like to lose a game, but we gained more experience and I hope that will benefit us going into the regional tournament.”

Sophomore Kyenna Jackson led the team as she scored 12 points and had 8 rebounds. Senior Cora Schroeder followed with 8 points and 5 rebounds and senior Allison Bromley scored 7 points and had 2 assists and 3 steals.

The final score was 47-35, Cokeville.

Lady Tigers vs. Lady Pronghorns

Hungry for a win on the road, Encampment sank their claws into the Lady Pronghorns on Saturday leaving Farson-Eden in a deficit of more than 30 points.

When the Lady Tigers hosted Farson-Eden last month, Encampment had won by just five points.

“I thought this was one of our most complete games of the season. We took advantage of our big girls in the post and did a good job on the board where we out rebounded Farson 41-to-15,” said C. Bromley. “It was definitely one of Allison’s best games of the year, dishing out 9 assists and only having one turnover.”

Jackson again led the Lady Tigers as she scored 22 points and had 13 rebounds while Schroeder followed with 11 points. A. Bromley scored 9 points and had 9 assists and 3 steals. Senior Peyton Munroe also contributed to the win with 8 points and 6 rebounds.

The final score was 58-23.

“We are excited to have finished off the conference season with a 5-and-3 record and are looking forward to competing in the regional tournament in two weeks,” said C. Bromley.

The last two games of the regular season will see the Lady Tigers on the road for non-conference games. Encampment will have been hosted by the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow Lady Miners on February 14 and will be hosted by the Rock River Lady Longhorns on February 17.
