Rattlers take a bite out of Panthers

LSRV take out another 2A Colorado team

The Little Snake River Valley basketball team went to Colorado to face a strong Colorado 2A team in Rangely. This Colorado team called the Panthers were a solid test for the Rattlers on January 19, but LSRV came out ahead 48 to 42.

Rattler head coach Jack Cobb was happy to come out with a win against a team as good as Rangely..

“The Panthers came out right in the beginning and hit some threes,” Cobb said. “I went ‘oh boy’, here we go. Then we hit some threes to answer what they were doing and it was close at half-time.”

Cobb said the Panthers came out roaring, but the Rattlers kept their composure and played solid defense and as the game progressed, LSRV got control of the very close game.

“They are a very physical basketball team and they make a team work,” Cobb said. “I like playing teams like this. It is fun.” Cobb admits it is especially fun when your team is the one that comes out on top as it did this past week.

Next week the Rattlers face Cokeville and Farson-Eden.

“Both teams are going to be tough,” Cobb said. “Cokeville is a good team. I watched them against Saratoga and it was close. Saratoga made some good plays at the end to pull ahead and win the game. Farson-Eden beat Encampment and they will be tough too.”

Cobb said after the weekend, he will have a good idea where the seedings are going.

“We would love to get a sweep this weekend, because it would really set us up for regionals,” Cobb said. “But I feel we can’t lose both. It would put us in a difficult position and what coach doesn’t want to avoid that when they can?”
