Snowmobile accident on Battle

Multiple departments help search for injured subject

A snowmobile accident in the Sierra Madre Mountains, west of Encampment, occurred in the afternoon of January 19, only one man hurt was hurt.

Sheriff Alex Bakken said, "At about 1 p.m. the Carbon County Sheriff's Office got a call for a snowmobile accident on Battle. Carbon County Sheriff's deputies, Saratoga and Encampment Search and Rescue and Saratoga Ambulance responded to the gates end on Highway 70. They sent in the Haglund, several search and rescue units on snowmobiles. They were able to make contact with the subject, a 45-year-old male suffering from non-life threatening injuries."

Medic Stayton Moseby went with Search and Rescue to treat the injured man. They were able to coordinate with Classic Air out of Rawlins. Landing zones are difficult in the mountains, but they were able to find a place to land, get the patient ready to transport, and take off. The patient was transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Colorado.
