Encampment's Annual Sierra Madre Winter Carnival to begin

The sleepy little hamlet of Encampment will be roaring to life this weekend with food, fun, and festivities. The 36 th Annual Sierra Madre Winter Carnival has already started the competitions with the Winter Carnival Button Contest. The winner, Aspen Boxberger took home $50 for her prize-winning art design.

Friday, January 27 begins with judging of snow painting, sponsored by the Platte Valley Arts Council. Saucer bowling is next up on Rankin and 8

Later in the evening the treasure hunt begins and teams will begin and end at the Grand Encampment Opera House.

Saturday, January 28 starts off with a hearty breakfast at the Opera House, served up by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) at 8 a.m. The fun continues with the sled races. Show off your creativity and your bravery with your best sled design. A chili and bread cook-off and a winter cake contest will warm you up at the Opera House.

Snowmobiles and snow golf will begin after lunch near Grandview Park.

Put the kids to bed and come back to the Opera House at 7 p.m. for Casino Night. You must be 21 or older to participate and there is a $20 charge to play. The proceeds from this event will benefit Grandma's Cabin and The Trevor Vorn family. This event has been organized by Gayle Wessel, please contact her for questions.
