Rattlers almost beat Panthers

LSRV lost the game to undefeated Panthers by one point

Jack Cobb, head coach of the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) basketball team said the game on January 13 against the Saratoga Panthers had the excitement of a state game.

All the fans from both teams were into it.

Cobb said the Rattlers had their chance in the 4th quarter to take control of the game as they had a bit of a lead. “Then we started missing free throws and Hadley (Myers) had four fouls and he had to sit on the bench at a crucial time,” Cobb said. “Our free throws were only 2 for 10.  When you lose by only one point, those missed free throws come back to haunt you,” Cobb said. “But it was fun and one team had to lose.” The score was 50 to 49.

The next game against Encampment went well for LSRV although Cobb said the Tigers were ready for the Rattlers. “They played slow in the first half and took us out of our game,” Cobb said. “They are so well coached, you can’t ever underestimate them. We only led by one point at half-time.”

Cobb said in the 3rd quarter the Rattlers pulled ahead. “Once we got 12 points ahead, I was able to breathe a little easier,” Cobb said. “Encampment is a really good team.” The Rattlers beat the Tigers 51 to 33.

One player Cobb had to give tremendous kudos for his season thus far was Seth Maxson. “Seth is so key in our defense and does a tremendous job that I didn’t realize until the other day he has hit double figures consistently with the exception of one game,” Cobb said. ”He works his tail off on defense and that is what we notice because he is so good, we missed how important he is to our scoring. When a kid can shut down a player on defense and score, it is a tribute to him as a player. He usually plays all the minutes of a game too.”

Cobb looks forward to their next game which is against Rangely, Colorado in Rangely.
