New Mayor for Medicine Bow

A quick meeting confirms mayor selected from the council

The Medicine Bow Town Council met January 9 to swear in two newly elected council positions.

Casey Federer and Lucy Schofiedl were immediately sworn in once the meeting was underway.

Then from the newly formed council, a mayor was selected; Lucy Schofield was unanimously elected mayor.

Schofield was on the council before her re-election to another term and had been pro-tem mayor under the previous administration when Sharon Biamon was mayor.

Once the election was over, the Council went into an executive session. The Council came out of the session and met quickly with department heads to get appointments established.

The department heads for the Town of Medicine Bow, which Schofield appointed, were Hayden Bricker as Public Works Director; Roger Hawks was made Town Marshal; Rob Piper was made Town Attorney; Robert Maddox was appointed Fire Chief and Dusty Gunther was made Town Deputy Clerk/Treasure.

There was a motion made by council member Sharon Khal to reappoint Karen Heath as clerk/treasurer. There was no second. The motion died.

A motion was made by Kahl to back pay Heath, due to the failure to reappoint, which was seconded by council member Cindy Chase. The motion passed unanimously.

The Council agreed to have another meeting on January 16 to go over more material now that the new mayor and council had taken their seats. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Community Hall of Medicine Bow.
