Medicine Bow Mayor elect resigns before taking oath of office

Newly elected mayor opts out of taking the job

William Bailey won the election for Mayor of Medicine Bow in November against incumbent Mayor, Sharon Biamon.

This past week, Bailey sent in a resignation letter.

A new Mayor will be chosen from the new council that will be sworn into office January 9 at the regularly scheduled Medicine Bow town council meeting.

Medicine Bow has a tradition of swearing in the mayor elect at the first town council meeting in January. When a new mayor is chosen, a council seat will become open.

Current council member, Lucy Schofield is the mayor pro-tem and likely will fill the mayoral position until the council meeting on January 9.

At this point, Biamon cannot be mayor any longer.

The situation is even a more complex at this moment because Karen Heath, town clerk and treasurer, left the town hall two weeks ago. The departure has left the town a little out of sorts in some residents’ opinions.

It is hoped with the January 9 meeting, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Medicine Bow Community Hall, much of what is unclear at the moment, will be resolved at the meeting.
