Rattlers take a bite, twice

LSRV wins two out of the three games played this weekend

The Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattler basketball team made their head coach Jack Cobb happy this past weekend. “I came off this weekend pretty pleased,” Cobb said. “You know I said deep down in my heart, if we win two out of three, I will be really satisfied. If we win one out of three, we accomplished something and if we go zero and three, well that is disappointing.”

The first game against the Burlington Huskies on Friday did not go well for the Rattlers. “Burlington is dang good and the boys played hard, but there had been a lot of sickness in the school. The girls team didn’t play this weekend because they were physically not able and a lot of boys were recovering,” Cobb explained. “That is not to make any excuses because the game was what it was and they handled us.” Cobb expects Burlington to get better as the season continues. Burlington beat LSRV 71-27. Burlington is 7-1.

Cobb said the team got 12 hours sleep and this helped tremendously.“ The boys woke up and were ready to play and they lost that sluggishness which was there the night before,” he said. “We played a good team in Upton but our defense and scoring was right there.” The Rattlers beat the Bobcats 60 to 47. Upton is 4-2.

When it came to the last game with Dubois, Cobb admits the team did not shoot as well as he feels they can.“We didn’t do well against Dubios, but we played great defense,” Cobb said. “We scored just enough points to stay ahead, but our defense was what won the game.” LSRV beat Dubois 51 to 47. The Rams are 2-4.

“I feel great that the team which lost big and was really down, came back the next day and won two big games for us,” Cobb said. “I am really optimistic about the season, because after the break two big kids will be back.”

Cobb was happy again to see balanced shooting by the team in general in the last two games, but he did acknowledge Hadley Myers.“ Hadley had a great game against Dubois,” Cobb said. “First he played great defense, took care of one of their best players and didn’t get into foul trouble and two, he scored 27 points.”

The Rattlers will be back playing on January 6 against Meeker, a Colorado team at home.
