A "SUNNY" WINNER

The Platte Valley Arts Council sponsored the 6th annual Hay Bale Sculpture Contest in October and the winning entry is SunnyCup. The Arts Council began the competition to show off some good ole’ ranch ingenuity. Area ranches, businesses & families in the Platte Valley were asked to create a sculpture made predominantly of bales but were given the artistic leeway to incorporate wood, metal, wire, paint, canvas damns, or anything other medium they could dream up into their sculpture. The council did want all of the valley residents to have a chance to see the handiwork, so participants were asked to place the works of art close to the highways, county roads or streets in our communities.

The strictly popularity contest was held on the Arts Council’s Facebook Page where the number of “LIKES” were tallied of the finished project photos on October 31, 2022. The winning entry was SunnyCup is on First Street in Saratoga, Wyoming. You can view all the entries at www.facebook.com/PlatteValleyArts.This was the largest number of entries into the contest with eight including SunnyCup, CSU Beef Improvement Center, the Young Ranch, Kelley Cattle Company, Sweet Marie’s Merchantile, Doggett Greenhouse, Town & Country Realty and the Saratoga Sun.

In addition to promoting awareness of all the ranching operations in Encampment, Saratoga & Riverside, the Platte Valley Arts Council hoped to share the creative agricultural minds in our midst. The “People’s Choice” winner Sunnycup took home the traveling trophy created by Saratoga artist, Sierra Smith. SunnyCup is now responsible to keep the trophy for one year and then surrender it to the next year’s winner.

The mission of the Platte Valley Arts Council is to keep art in your everyday life and you can help us do that by voting in this unique and exciting contest.
