Encampment won against Midwest big
The Encampment Tiger High School football team proved on Saturday why they are in the hunt for a state championship as they took on the Midwest Oilers winning 80 to 6.
"This was a good way to end our regular season and for our seniors on senior night," Head coach Kegan Willford of the Encampment football team said. We still have things to improve on as we advance into the playoffs."
The game started out in the Tigers favor when Kaban Pickett ran in a touchdown in the 1st quarter. Ryon Miller was the next Tiger player to score with a kickoff return. The Oilers did score six points before the 2nd quarter started, making it 12 to 6.
The 2nd quarter the Tigers crushed the Oilers scoring 48 points before the half. Quade Jordan was the first to score for Encampment with a 29 yard run touchdown. Arthur Ehlem got the two points after the touchdown making it 20 to 6. Jordan followed through with another touchdown as did Ehlem with the two points after the touchdown making it 28 to 6. One more repeat of Jordan scoring with Ehlem getting the two points made it 36 to 6. Then Miller recovered a fumble to score and Ehlem got his two points making the score 44 to 6. The Tigers weren't done chomping on the Oilers in this quarter.
Jordan got an interception and scored and Ehlem scored. It was 52 to 6. The last Tiger to score a touchdown in this quarter was Ben Wagy who took a pass from Gunner Henrie. Elhem was money in the bank and the score was 60 to 6.
The 3rd quarter, the Tigers were a bit more tame about their scoring against the Oilers. Henrie ran in a five yard touchdown and the score was 66 to 6. There were no more points put on the board by either team. The 4th quarter, the Tigers still had a few more scores left in them before the clock ended. Korbyn Barkhurst ran in a 21 yard touchdown and Elhem got two points making the score 74 to 6. Barkhurst scored one more time and Encampment ended with 80 points to the Oils 6. Barkhurst was the leading rusher for the team at 77 yards.
Encampment's coach is happy with the win, but knows for the Tigers to get to the championship game, Encampment needs to be at their best as the next games come up.
The first team they face will be the Kaycee Buckaroos which are number two in the North Conference. A solid team, but previously this season when they met, the Tigers beat the Buckaroos 71 to 6. If the Tigers get past Kaycee, it is likely they will encounter Little Snake River Valley, which is undefeated and has beaten Encampment 78 to 26.
"The postseason is an exciting time of year, because this is something that our team has worked towards since the summer," Willford said.
The Tigers will play Kaycee at 2 p.m. on October 28 in Kaycee.
