The CCVC has updated the website and are utilizing their newest employee to saturate social media with information. John Rutherford, Carbon County Fire Warden, asked for permission to surplus old fire equipment. The Commissioners approved the request.

Carbon County Attorney, Ashley Davis, addressed the Commissioners concerning County Road 297–the North Hanna Road. There is concern about having this road open due to its instability as stated in previous meetings. They have tried to get the engineer to give a recommendation, but they refused. The Commissioners decided it should stay closed. Layman asked for permission to work with Carbon County Fire, Hanna Fire and the Town of Hanna to develope a rough evacuation plan. Commissioners gave Layman permission to pursue this.

Davis asked for resolution to consider future action on County Road 451,Cherokee Road. The Commissioners agreed that they need to give all property owners in that area an opportunity to speak at a meeting concerning the proposed actions. Commissioner Sue Jones made a motion to adopt Resolution 2022-45 initiating the procedure to formally adopt County Road 451 and to set a public hearing. The motion was approved.

Carbon County Clerk Gwynn Bartlett discussed the drop box at the County building. Bartlett recently received a request from Secretary of State, Karl Allred to eliminate the drop box. He wants to discontinue the use of drop boxes across the state. Bartlett responded to Allred explaining that the boxes have security cameras to ensure no tampering or ballot-box stuffing. Bartlett said they get a lot of absentee ballots. Bartlett decided to keep the drop box and said that her office received 40 ballots from the box since absentee voting had started. Bartlett monitors this very carefully. There are two employees checking the box every day. They also have a chain of custody log. The drop box is not just for ballots, it is used for various other items. The Commissioners did not have any issues with keeping the drop box.

The next Carbon County Commissioners Meeting will be November 1, 2022 at the Carbon Building at 9 am.
