HEM has a tough time against Farson-Eden
The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow, Elk Mountain (HEM) Miner High School football team would probably like to put last Saturday’s game behind them quickly because their Farson-Eden kept coming at the young Miner team, even after it was apparent the Pronghorns had won the game.
The final score was 83 to 6.
“It was a hard loss,” Miner head coach Zack Scott said. “ We will continue to work on the things we need to.”
There were a few bright moments for the team, including the pass from Howard Bame to
Slevyn Pelt who went 48 yards to score a touchdown. Pelt also ran 27 yards in kick returns to get a combined total of 75 yards.
Tom Wagner carried the ball 13 times to get 38 yards. The Pronghorns keyed in heavily on Wagner to keep him getting much yardage. Naythan Antencio carried the ball seven times for 41 yards.
There were tackles by the HEM team. The young team did not give up. Freshmen players led in tackles for the Miner team. Antencio got eight tackles, Pelt seven and Royal Olson got six.
The Miners have a lot of young players that did their best and will improve as they gain experience, Scott has no doubt.
The next game will be another challenge. Dubois Rams are in the hunt to make it to the State championships at 5 and 1. The game is at home on Saturday at noon.
