FITZSIMMONS TO TAKE REINS AS MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF NPVMC NOVEMBER 1

Dr. Brendan Fitzsimmons will take over as medical director and head physician of the North Platte Valley Medical Center November 1, the Platte Valley Healthcare Project (PVHP) has announced.

“While we were sorry to see Dr. Durham leave — as I’m sure he was — Brendan Fitzsimmons has a great deal of experience in family practice, rural healthcare and Critical Access Hospitals, and much of it in Wyoming,” said PVHP Chairman Will Faust. “He will be a great addition to the team at NPVMC.”

Prior to joining NPVMC, Fitzsimmons was the physician at Lander Clinic as part of St. John’s Health in Jackson and earlier held a number of positions with the Sublette County Health System, including five years in Pinedale, and nine with the North and South Big Horn County Hospital Districts. He also briefly owned his own practice, Laramie Plains Family Medicine in Laramie.

Before entering the medical field, Fitzsimmons served with the U.S. Navy in Missile Fire Control as part of the Second Fleet, Atlantic Ocean.

Fitzsimmons received an associate degree in pre-engineering from Casper College, and a B.S. in electrical engineering with a biomechanical option from the University of Wyoming. He earned his MD from Creighton University and performed his residency at University of North Dakota Rural Family Practice in Minot, ND.

Fitzsimmons is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice and the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine. He also holds current life support certifications for Basic and Advanced Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Pediatric Life Support and Advanced Burn Life Support as well as Neonatal Resuscitation. He serves and has served on a variety of medical boards and organizations throughout Wyoming during hos career, including Wyoming Physicians in Leadership, Laramie Physician Organization, and the Ivinson Memorial Hospital Medical Executive Committee. He is currently a Sublette County Health Officer and member of the Green River Valley Health Foundation. He was named Wyoming Health and Women’s Wellness Program Physician of the Year in 2009.

Until Dr. Fitzsimmons assumes his new duties, the Platte Valley Clinic and Saratoga Care Center continue to operate normally under the direction of NPVMC CEO Jeff Mincy and Nurse Practitioner Ruby Ayres.
