If convicted, could face six months in prison or $750 fine
Over Memorial Day weekend, a Saratoga man was arrested and could face up to six months in prison.
Ryan Munks is currently facing charges of domestic battery following an incident on May 28. According to an affidavit of probable cause filed on May 31 in Carbon County Circuit Court, Carbon County Sheriff’s Deputy Alex Bakken responded to a domestic disturbance at approximately 7:22 p.m. on May 28. Bakken arrived on scene at approximately 8 p.m. where he found Munks’ wife outside the home. According to Bakken, Munks’ wife appeared to have been crying prior to his arrival.
While interviewing her, Bakken was informed she had been pushed into a wall by Munks and had sustained abrasions on her arm which she showed to the deputy. She also informed Bakken both she and Munks had been drinking prior to the incident and that he was still inside the home. After attempting to gain entry to the home by knocking on the exterior doors and calling Munks, Bakken received permission from the wife to enter the home.
Bakken and another deputy entered the home and located Munks. During the interview with the two deputies, Munks admitted to getting into an argument with his wife after the two had been drinking. According to the affidavit, Munks told Bakken he told his wife to leave the house and had “escorted” her out the front door. He clarified the escorted statement by confirming he had pushed her out the door and “she may have tripped and fell over some boxes after being pushed” according to the affidavit.
According to Wyoming State Statute 6-2-511(a), “A household member is guilty of domestic battery if he knowingly or recklessly causes bodily injury to another household member by use of physical force.” If found guilty for a first offense, a person could face up to six months in prison, a fine of $750 or both.
Munks had his arraignment on May 31 where he plead not guilty.
