Movin' and Groovin'

This past Saturday evening, June 4, folks from far and wide gathered as The Yard hosted the 10th Annual HiWater Hoedown for an evening of great music, good weather, and fun. 

The night kicked off with J Shogren Shanghai'd, highlighted by the guest appearance of Mandy Bohlender. The two had  playful and familiar interaction on stage, making for a warm and heartfelt show, culminating with their beautiful rendition of "Wade in the Water."

A light bout of rain brought a small scare to concert goers, but suddenly, the blue sky came back and with it, Aaron Davis and the Mystery Machine took the stage. Aaron Davis and the Mystery Machine regaled concert goers with tunes about the origin of his hat, abandoned due to the injury of its owner at the hat store after needing to be repaired, with Davis eventually noticing the hat and buying it under the condition that he'd fish in it, just as the previous owner would.

Furthermore, while playing his track, "Hitchin' to Concordia," Davis sang about the liquor laws in Kentucky, and how the wet and dry county laws resulted in the need for folks to commute from surrounding counties to Meade county, buying alcohol for their weekends.

An imitative cover of the Junior Kimbrough 1992 song, "Meet Me in The City," rounded out Davis' set, segueing into the last intermission period of the evening.

After intermission, Jalan Crossland of Ten Sleep, Wyoming took the stage. Crossland is a multi-award-winning artist, including Wyoming Public Radio's people's choice award for best Wyoming release in 2017.

It didn't take long for Crossland to gather dozens by the stage to dance as his solo performance roared on. Watching and listening to Crossland's fluent guitar and banjo picking was quite amazing.

Overall, it was a very pleasant evening, marking yet another successful year of the HiWater Hoedown.
