Sophomore class plans school field day

Encampment school holds inaugural field day

Encampment K-12 school finished out the 2021-22 school year with a new field day event for students. This was the first field day for Encampment students and was planned almost entirely by the sophomore class. The older kids in grades 7-12 have spent the year with a focus on community building. Students chose community oriented projects and were committed to creating a positive environment in Encampment schoos for students and staff alike. Many caring projects were performed over the year.

Giving examples, Leslie McLinskey said, "These little service projects ranged from decorating lockers with encouraging post-its, making motivational posters for the hallways, locker rooms, and the cafeteria, reading with elementary classes, and sending thank yous to staff members."

As the year progressed, the classes got more devoted to these projects and began planning and implementing even more exciting projects.

The final community service project was spearheaded by the sophomore class and the incoming junior class.

The group prepared all aspects of field day from assigning groups and games, to preparing rules and locating supplies. The 8th graders became dance instructors for the event per their request. The idea came after the class learned line dancing with Mr. Paul Switzer, Encampment's AG teacher, during the enrichment times this year. The first field day for Encampment students seemed like a success. Students and staff alike seem excited to make the event an annual occurrence.

Community building projects are looking hopeful to continue at the Encampment school. Every student from kindergarten to 11th grade was involved in the first hopefully annual field day event.

"It was so much fun! One of my favorite parts was seeing some of these middle and high schoolers really shine as they interacted with the elementary students," said McLinskey "I personally think that the community building has really shown."
