Panthers take seven to State

Saratoga wrestling qualifies 7 of 9 grapplers

The Saratoga Panther grapplers will be taking seven members to the 2A State Wrestling Tournament this weekend after some decent placings at the 2A East Regional Tournament. Only two members of the nine member team will not be hitting the mats in the Ford Events Center in Casper.

106 Class

In the 106 weight class, Brian Smith earned his trip to Casper as he came in 2nd place in the regional tournament.

Smith started off with a bye in the quarterfinal round before winning by major decision over Rebekah Anderson of Moorcroft in the semifinal round. In the 1st Place Match, Dayne Humes of Moocroft won by major decision over Smith.

113 Class

Two wrestlers in the 113 Weight Class—Tuker Carricato and Kanean Roberts—will both be going to the state wrestling tournament after placing 4th and 5th, respectively.

Carricato received a bye in Championship Round 1 before facing Braydnn Terry of Moorcroft in the quarterfinal round where Terry won by decision. In Consolation Round 2, Carricato received a bye and won by fall over Roberts in Consolation Round 3. In the Consolation Semifinals, Carricato won by technical fall over Wyitt Knight of Wright. In the 3rd Place Match, Wyatt Sylvester of Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast won by injury default over Carricato.

Roberts received a bye in Championship Round 1 before facing Wyatt Sylvester of Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast, who won by fall in the quarterfinal round. In Consolation Round 2, Roberts won by fall over Cade Williams of Moorcroft. In Consolation Round 3, Roberts lost by fall to Carricato.

120 Class

Of the two wrestlers in the 120 weight class, only one will be headed to Casper.

Allyster Ingraham placed 5th, while Cale Mowry did not qualify for the state tournament.

Ingraham began with a bye in Championship Round 1 before facing Gabe Matthews of Niobrara County who won by fall in the quarterfinal round. In Consolation Round 2, Ingraham won by fall over Carter Maslowski of Tongue River. Kayden Austin of Hulett then won by decision over Ingraham in Consolation Round 3.

In Championship Round 1, Mowry lost to Wyatt Cook of Moorcroft by fall and received a bye for Consolation Round 1. In Consolation Round 2, Connor Morris of Tongue River won by fall over Mowry.

126 Class

Saratoga won’t have representation for the 126 Weight Class as Skyler Wood did not qualify for the state tournament.

In Championship Round 1, Jaden Houk of Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast won by fall over Wood. In Consolation Round 1, Wood received a bye before facing MJ Ulmer of Hulett in Consolation Round 2, who won by fall.

182 Class

Kellen Reeder took 4th place in his weight class.

In the quarterfinal round, Haydan Huyser of Glenrock won by fall over Reeder. Reeder then won by fall over Sterling Norris of Moorcroft in Consolation Round 1. In the Consolation Semifinals, Reeder won by decision over Leo Lyons of Sundance. In the 3rd Place Match, Adam Stainbrook of Tongue River won by fall over Reeder.

195 Class

Quade Jordan took 2nd in the 195 weight class and will be heading to Casper.

In the quarterfinal round, Jordan received a bye. Then, in the semifinal round, Jordan won by fall over Gabin Reynolds of Moorcorft. In the 1st Place Match, Charlee Thomson of Wright won by fall over Jordan.

285 Class

In the 285 weight class, Ben Wagy placed 5th.

In the quarterfinal round, Ethan Mack of Wright won by fall over Wagy and Wagy received a bye Consolation Round 1. In the Consolation Semifinals, Dawson Flahaven of Sundance won by fall over Wagy.

The 2A State Wrestling Tournament will take place February 25 and 26 in Casper at the Ford Wyoming Center.
