Jennings interviewed

SES principal applying for CCSD2 superintendent role

On Tuesday, February 15, a Community Forum was held for superintendent of schools candidate Darrin Jennings at the Platte Valley Community Center (PVCC) in Saratoga.

Doctor Jim Copeland, the current superintendent for Carbon Country School District No. 2 (CCSD2), retires on June 30 of this year, and candidates have stepped up to the plate to hopefully fill his role.

Community Forums were organized for each of the candidates at both the Hanna Recreation Center in Hanna and the PVCC. Members of the public were encouraged to come and ask questions of the candidates before the Board of Trustees interviewed each candidate for the position.

Jennings is running against CCSD2 Director of Curriculum Noel Manning and superintendent of Converse County School District #2 Coley Shadrick. Jennings is the current principal of Saratoga Elementary School, and has been principal of both Saratoga schools and interim CCSD2 superintendent.

Jennings is running on a platform focused on “the students.” He believes a strong sense of community and communication is key to furthering the educational goals of CCSD2. Jennings said his history of leadership will be helpful in assuring students are the primary directive of this county’s future, and notes his work—specifically in areas like Saratoga, Hanna, and Rawlins—give him a better understanding of what CCSD2 needs.

In the Community Forum, he also noted “small schools are the best” and hopes his tenure as superintendent will allow him to put his efforts into this community.

Further information on each candidate can be found at cbr2.org.
