Lady Panthers scratch out two wins

Saratoga girls deal losses to HEM, Rock River at home and abroad

The Saratoga Lady Panthers clawed into the competition in this week. First winning their non-conference game against the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners 52-27 on the Lady Panthers home court, the Lady Panthers traveled to Rock River where they took home a non-conference win against the Lady Longhorns, 51-38.

"We had two really good games this weekend. I was pleased with how the girls played, especially in the Rock River game,"said Head Coach Heather Bartlett.

"Whitney Bennett and Rhiwan Williams both continue to put in consistently strong games, I believe Whitney has had a double/double every game this year so far."

Lady Panthers vs. Lady Miners

Saratoga hosted the Lady Miners on Thursday for a non-conference game. The teams battled hard in the first quarter with the Lady Panthers having a slight lead. By half time, the score was 21-9 with the Lady Panthers 12 points ahead. Throughout the game, the Lady Panthers sunk their claws into the Lady Miners to keep their lead secure.

"Olivia Everett had a great game against Hanna with a double/double," said Bartlett

The Lady Miners put their pikaxes to work in the second half trying to gain ground on Saratoga. The Lady Panthers would still win Thursday's home non-conference game HEM, 52-27.

Scoring 14 points Whitney Bennett was the high scorer of the game and had 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals for the Hanna game. Olivia Everett scored 10 points, 10 rebounds and 1 steal. Rhiwan Williams also scored 10 points and had 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Sam Fiedor scored 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal for the Lady Panthers. Allie Condict scored 5 points, 1 assist and 3 steals.

Anna Peterson scored 2 points, 5 rebounds and and 1 steal. Finally, Maddie Teishman was able to secure 1 point, 1 assist, 1 steal for the Lady Panthers.

Lady Panthers vs. Lady Longhorns

The Saratoga Lady Panthers traveled to Rock River to face the Lady Longhorns Saturday for a non-conference game. The Lady Longhorns defended their court hard in the first three quarters against the Lady Panthers. The Lady Panthers came ready to strike with their claws out, gaining the lead on Rock River.

"The girls played really well and that made us have to really step up to get the win on the road. We were down going into the 4th quarter and the girls were able to put together an amazing 4th quarter during which we held them scoreless and we scored 17 points," said Bartlett.

Using their defensive skills, the Lady Panthers kept their lead on the Lady Longhorns and won the game 51-38.

Bartlett continued, "I have to give special recognition to Sam Fiedor, our senior, for this game. She really stepped up in the second half and carried the team to the win."

Fiedor scored 13 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal over the Rock River game. Bennett secured 15 points, 12 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists for the Lady Panthers. Everett scored 9 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Williams scored 8 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 6 steals. Teishman secured 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 steal. Finally Allie Condict scored 2 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal for the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Panthers will host the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns at 4 p.m. on January 21 and the Cokeville Lady Panthers at non on Janaury 22.
