Quick meeting in Hanna

Nearly cancelled, Hanna Town Council meeting lasts only 20 minutes

On January 11, the Hanna Town Council meeting was nearly cancelled due to lack of a quorum.

At 6:30 p.m. there was only Mayor Lois Buchanan and Councilmember Sam Sikes. The mayor waited 15 minutes and, with no other council member showing up, went over the board reports.

Public Works Director Larry Korkow said snow removal had been the focus of his team for the past month and everything was running fine.

Vivian Gonzales, director of Parks and Recreation, said the pool was at a good temperature of 88 degrees. The pool vacuum is being serviced. She said there are some leaks coming in from the roof which is being looked into. She said memberships are picking up and Bingo Night is becoming very successful. There were 30 people who attended a New Year’s Eve bingo night. 

Gonzales said the Sip and Paint event had sold out and January’s event was also sold out. In February, the function will be geared towards couples. The recreation center has started co-ed volleyball and a league has been started. She has also started a family fun night with the next one January 20. Jui Jitzu classes for youth have started and they are on Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 5 pm.

South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Services (SCWEMS) will be holding EMT classes starting January 19 until the end of May. The classes will be weekly 6 to 10 p.m. She is looking to hold a contest for a logo featuring the aquatics of the Hanna Recreation Center. The new weight equipment has come and the center is in the process of putting it out.

At 7:08 p.m., Councilmember Tracy Fowler came to the meeting and a quorum was formed allowing the meeting to progress past board reports.

The board reports, agenda and minutes from the December 14 regularly scheduled meeting were approved. The financials were approved shortly thereafter.

Under old business, the collection permit application from Dirty Boyz was untabled and approved.

Resolution 2022-542, issuing an open container waiver permit allowing open containers at the Hanna Recreation Center for the sip and paint party, was approved.

The application for a fowl permit by Alyssa Lewark/HEM AG Department was approved.

A Letter of Agreement for the Hanna Recreation Center to host the Junior Jazz program was approved.

Resolution 2022-543, which adopted a revised employee handbook, was approved. 

The council approved the 2022 salary publication of town employees.

Resolution 2022-544, supporting the submission of an application to Wyoming Community Gas for a grant in the amount of $5,000 to create a new logo and signs for the Town of Hanna’s Recreation Center, was approved.

The council approved soliciting for a design firm for the Old Town water line rehab project Phase 2. In addition, the council approved a statement of qualifications for design firms.

The meeting, once Fowler arrived, was over in about 20 minutes.

The next meeting of the Hanna Town Council will be at 6 p.m. on Feburary 8 at Hanna Town Hall.
