Panthers wrestle tough

Saratoga grapplers show well at Zach Parish Duals

Traveling North to Shoshoni the Saratoga Middle/ High School Panther wrestling team competed in the Zach Parish Memorial Wrangler Duals. Wrestling in Pool A the Panthers wrestled against Lovell, Shoshoni, Worland JV, and Rocky Mountain. Filling 9 of 14 Weight classes, the Panthers wrestled their way to the top and won the Pool A competition.

Wrestling against Lovell in the first round the Panthers won 6 head to head matches and lost 3. In Round 2 the Panthers put on a dominating performance winning all 9 matches against Shoshoni. Battling Worland in round 3 the Saratoga Panthers won 7 and only lost 2 of the head to head matches in the round. In round 4 against Rocky Mountain the Panthers only had one loss and won 8 head to head matches. To end the dual tournament, Saratoga wrestled against Big Piney losing 3 and winning 6 matches.

"Saratoga had lots of success on the day with many impressive individual performances," Said Head Coach Jared Mason.

Beginning at 106 Josiah Stockwell pinned all 5 of his opponents for an undefeated day of wrestling.

In 113 Freshman Brian Smith won 4 matches with only 1 loss.

Tuker Carricato and Allyster Ingraham both wrestled at 120 and 126 depending on the competition and both finished the day undefeated.

At 152, Slayd Daley was tough to beat finishing 4 and 1 on the day. "His outstanding match of the tournament was a 10-6 victory over Defending State Champion, Pehton Truempler of Shoshoni when he bumped up to wrestle him at 160," Said Coach Mason.

At 170 Douglass Campbell wrestled 5 matches winning 3. At 195 Kellen Reeder also wrestled 5 rounds winning 2.

Quade Jordan at 220 had a record of 4-1. At heavyweight class Ben Wagy went undefeated.

"Even though they won a few matches by forfeit, the big guys posted impressive records," said Coach Mason. "The extra wrestlers that didn't make the varsity line up this week for the Panthers were placed on other teams to get matches, and they also wrestled tough."

At 106, Skyler Woods' record for the day was 1-2. At 113 Kanean Roberts finished the day undefeated 3-0. Cale Mowry, also at 113 had 2 wins with his only loss to teammate Brian Smith.

The next match for the Saratoga Panthers will be January 14 at the Don Runner Duals in Wind River. The very next day January 15 the Panthers will compete in Hayden Colorado in a traditional bracket tournament.
