Changes in Riverside

At the November 18 rescheduled meeting of Riverside Town Council, a decision was made regarding new playground equipment as well as a change in sewer tap fees. A new town website has been uploaded. Also still present on the agenda is public safety.

GameTime Equipment may be the source of Riverside’s newest playground equipment. After extensive research by community member Makenzie Rakness the town council has decided to pursue the project further through the company as well as volunteer efforts. Included in the research compiled by Rakness was first hand experience, multiple review sources, price and installation options. She also spoke directly with schools which have purchased from GameTime and researched multiple equipment setups to fill Riverside’s specific needs. Contingent upon funding requirements the town council will pursue the playground equipment. Continued renovations of the park include the removal of three fire pits.

Sewer tap rates for Riverside have been raised from $1,000 to $2,500 in order to cover operational costs. The town council cited parts costs as well as town cost to repair the road after installation.

The Town of Riverside has a new website, which can be visited at RiversideWyo.com. On the website one can find the history of Riverside, town documents and ordinances, a list of local businesses and a calendar for upcoming events.

The Neighborhood Watch program has been put on hold while the town council awaits public input. Regarding the program, the council would like to hear from full time and seasonal residents.

After a recent car chase and nearby manhunt in Encampment, public safety is a concern not only of the council but public as well. Ongoing and rising crime in the Valley has prompted multiple changes at personal and town council levels.

A member of the public asked the council about the possibility of pursuing a “safe haven”, a building or area that provides services to women, children, and all survivors whose lives have been affected by multiple forms of abuse. The primary purpose of a shelter facility is to provide shelter, and safety in a supportive environment to individuals and families who have been abused or are facing an emergency situation such as fire or sudden death. The possibility of a Neighbor Watch program will be revisited in March.

The next meeting of Riverside Town council will be held at 6:00p.m. December 9 at the RIverside Town hall.
